Dr. Tina Sherwell lives in Jerusalem. She graduated
from Goldsmiths¹ College, London and received her
Ph.D. from the University of Kent atCanterbury in
Image Studies. She is currently the Director of
theInternational Academy of Art Palestine, where she
lectures and teaches.Previously she was Programme
Leader of Fine Art at Winchester School of Art,
University of Southampton. She was also Executive
Director of the Virtual Gallery at Birzeit
University, and has worked on the Tate Online with
their digital archives. She has also taught in
different art workshop programmes for children and
youth in Palestine. The author of various articles
on Palestinian art published in catalogues, journals
and books, Sherwell alsoserves in an advisory role
for a range of cultural institutions in Palestine.
Arts Director
Khaled Hourani
Born 1965 in Hebron, Palestine, Khaled Hourani is an
active Palestinian artist, curator, and art critic.
He attained a BA in History from Hebron University
and was awarded the title of Cultural Management
Trainer by Al Mawred Culture Resource and the
European Cultural Foundation (Egypt). He has
participated in numerous residencies and workshops
worldwide including Geneva, Braziers, Bristol, and
Egypt. He has also had several solo exhibitions
locally and internationally and participates
frequently in-group exhibitions. Khaled Hourani has
curated and organized several exhibitions locally
such as the young Artist of the Year Award for the
years 2000 & 2002 for the A.M. Qattan Foundation and
internationally he was the curator of the
Palestinian pavilion for Sao Paolo Biennial, Brazil
and the 21st Alexandria Biennial, Egypt. He also
writes critically in the field of art and is an
active member and founder of artistic and
administrative boards in a number of successful
cultural and art institutions, Palestinian
Association of Contemporary Art, Palestinian Artist
League, Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center, Al Matal
Gallery, and others. He was Director of the Plastic
Arts Department at the Ministry of Culture
1997-2006. Khaled is one of the overseers and
enthusiasts of the project of founding the
International Academy of Art Palestine in
cooperation with the Oslo National Academy of the
Arts. Khaled Hourani is currently the Arts Director
for the project to establish the International
Academy of Art Palestine.
Administration and Finance Officer
Samia Shannan Tamimi
Born 1956 in Colombia, Samia S. Tamimi returned to
Palestine with her parents in 1978, learned Arabic
and English while pursuing a diploma degree for
Administrative Secretary. She has worked in several
local educational institutions in administrative and
public relations since 1980. She also acts as a
freelance translator/interpreter and is a founding
member of the Teacher Creativity Center in Ramallah
having served as Head of Programs and Public
Relations since 1997. Samia S. Tamimi is currently
the Administration and Finance Officer for the
International Academy of Art Palestine Project.
IT Engineer
Hamdan Bahboh
Born in Beita - Nablus-1971, He attained a
Bachelor of Technology, Electronics Engineering from
Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University
1994 - India. Hamdan is currently the IT Engineer at
the International Academy of Art Palestine, he is
responsible of updating the site of the academy,
maintenance of network, software, hardware of the
computers and he is responsible of the library.
Administrative Assistant
Nida Daoud
Born 1981 in Beit Jala, Nida Daoud attained a BA in
Geography and Political Science from Birzeit
University and has worked as a secretary for a local
company and part-time at a local election center.
She has also worked for the Ministry of Labor and
part time administrative assistant and accountant
for the League of Palestinian Artists. Nida has
completed many courses in computer training,
administration courses for youth centers and
institutions as well as basic English language
skills courses. Nida Daoud is currently the
Administrative Assistant for the International
Academy of Art Project.
Technical Assistant
Mamoun Shrieteh
From Al Mizira’a Al Qabliya, born in 1982, Ma’amoun
was employed at Ziryab Restaurant for nearly two
years before working three years for the League of
Palestinian Artists. He has worked with the
Palestinian Association for Contemporary Art in its
workshops, activities, and conferences and was
introduced to prominent Palestinian artists like
Tayseer Barakat, Nabil Anani, Suleiman Mansour,
Khaled Hourani, and Samir Salameh. He was exposed to
Palestinian art and introduced to many young
artists. Previously, Ma’amoun worked with the
Ministry of Culture in the International workshop (Jifna
Spring), and with Qattan Foundation in Hasan Hourani
Award. Mamoun Shrieteh is currently the Technical
Assistant for the International Academy of Art
Project.
